According to the 2010 Arizona Youth Survey (http://www.azcjc.gov/ACJC.Web/sac/AYS.aspx), approximately one-in-five (21.5 percent) 8th, 10th and 12th grade youth in our state reported taking prescription medication without a doctor’s approval at some point in their lives; and one-in-ten (10.4 percent) students reported misusing prescription drugs within the past 30 days. These figures were 22.4 and 10.7 percent in 2008, respectively, indicating that prescription drug abuse is a growing problem in Arizona. A one-page informational brochure was created to provide individuals with information about the dangers of prescription drug abuse and the proper storage and disposal of prescription and over-the-counter medications.
