Established in June 2007, the Arizona Substance Abuse Partnership (ASAP) serves as the single statewide council on substance abuse issues. ASAP brings together stakeholders at the federal, state, tribal and local levels to: improve coordination across state agencies; address identified gaps in prevention, treatment and enforcement efforts; and improve fund allocation. ASAP utilizes data and practical expertise to develop effective methods for integrating and expanding services across Arizona, maximizing available resources. ASAP also studies current policy and recommends relevant legislation for the Arizona Legislature’s consideration.
This body existed in a similar capacity as the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant (SPF-SIG) Advisory Council, a requirement of the federal SPF-SIG grant, and continues to serve in this role. ASAP has established a Community Advisory Board to provide community level input in the state planning efforts and to identify emerging issues from a local perspective that require shifts in resources, changes in policy and statewide attention.
