Make up of the Commission
Commission members are representatives from around the State, with a broad range of experiences, from various public and private entities and diverse ethnic backgrounds. The Commission is composed of Medical Doctors, Nurses, State and Local agency representatives, members from the Arizona State Senate, members from the Arizona House of Representatives, Educators, as well as community and philanthropic leaders and representation from the Department of Public Health.
Purpose
In several key indicators Arizona has ranked poorly with regards to women’s health. Arizona ranked 47th in the number of women without health insurance, 46th in the number of women receiving first trimester prenatal care and 48th in the teen birth rate. Working collaboratively, the Commission has been charged to identify strategies, develop public policies and/or make legislative recommendations to improve the overall health of women.
Areas of Focus
Through the work of the Commission, the subcommittees work to address important issues such as access to health care, general health concerns affecting women, reproductive health care including teen pregnancy and prenatal care.
Subcommittee on Access to Health Care
The focus of the subcommittee will be on increasing outreach and public awareness efforts to enroll more women in health care as well as data collection and analysis, policy analysis and addressing long-term solutions.
Subcommittee on Health Concerns
The focus of the subcommittee will be on chronic disease prevention, early intervention and management, as well as the issues of border health and behavioral health.
Subcommittee on Reproductive Health, Family Planning & Teen Pregnancy Prevention
The focus of the subcommittee will be on access to family planning services and teen pregnancy prevention.
Subcommittee on Prenatal Care
The focus of the subcommittee will be on increasing BOTH community education and access to prenatal care. |
