| Women’s Health Week |
|
| |
This year’s Arizona’s Women’s Health Week ran from May 10-16, 2009. The Women’s Health Expo was a signature event of the week and the outcomes exceeded our projections. Below is a highlight of the Expo’s successes, made possible with your support: |
- Over 600 women attended the Women’s Health Expo between the two community locations; St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center and The Wellness Community.
- Women in attendance were able to take advantage of many screenings including: Mammograms, blood pressure, depression, menopause, cholesterol, glucose, body mass index, and nutritional analysis.
- Women also participated in educational workshops on mental health, physical activity, cancer prevention, heart disease, stress management, preventative screenings and domestic violence. In addition to healthy cooking demos and massage therapy.
- 60 organizations partnered during the Expo to provide informational booths and free screenings.
- The majority of the women attended stated they felt they had improved their knowledge in at least 2 new women’s health issues.
- In addition, Arizona had over 68 events organized across the state focused on raising awareness and education on women’s health.
|
Excellent feedback was received from exhibitors and participants and many are already asking about next year’s Expo.
The Governor’s Office for Children, Youth, and Families will continue to make efforts to engage government, business, and community partners in raising awareness about women’s health issues. We will work to expand the reach of Women’s Health Week events and encourage organizations across the state to provide health screenings and education to women throughout the week. |
