The Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) grant program from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools supports effective programs that: prevent violence in and around schools, prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, involve parents and communities and are coordinated with related Federal, State, school, and community efforts and resources to foster a safe and drug-free learning environment.
The No Child Left Behind Act provides that the funding is distributed so that the State Education Agency receives 80% of the funding for Title IV SDFSC program and the Governor’s Office receives 20% of the allocation. In Arizona, the Department of Education (ADE) receives 80% of the funding for the Title IV SDFSC program and the Governor’s Office for Children, Youth & Families, Division for Children, receives 20% of the allocation for the Governor’s Office programs.
