| Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Grant |
|
The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) grant programs from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), are provided through two programs known as the Title V Delinquency Prevention Program and the Title II Formula Grants Program. Funding for the Title V Delinquency Prevention Program is allocated each year through OJJDP and Congress. Funding for the Formula Grants Title II Program is appropriated through Congress as part of the JJDP Act. The state’s allocation is based on population and compliance with the four core requirements of the JJDP Act. |
|
The four core requirements are: |
- Deinstitutionalization of status offenders;
- Sight and sound separation;
- Jail removal;
- Disproportionate minority contact.
|
| |
| The JJDP Title II Program can fund a variety of different programs as outlined through the JJDP ACT and the Arizona Juvenile Justice Commission. The JJDP Title V Program supports collaborative community-based delinquency prevention efforts, the reduction of risks factors and the increase of protective factors in youth. |
| |
| Throughout Arizona, JJDP funds have supported successful local programs that meet gaps in program services and community needs such as: |
- Implementing effective prevention programs that are designed to reduce juvenile delinquency and substance abuse
- Implementing alternatives to detention for youth that have encountered the juvenile justice system for status offenses
- Implementing after-care and intervention programs for gender specific populations
- Implementing programs that deal with violence and bullying in and around schools
