Overview
AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that engage 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in environment, education, public safety, homeland security, and other human needs. AmeriCorps provides trained, dedicated people to help non-profits accomplish more and make more effective use of volunteers.

The Governor's Commission on Service and Volunteerism receives funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service, which in turn distributes and monitors grants to local non-profits and agencies. The organizations receiving grants are responsible for recruiting, selecting, and supervising AmeriCorps members and securing partners. This funding is available in a three-year cycle.

The Governor's Commission on Service and Volunteerism has awarded $1,771,840 to Arizona's AmeriCorps programs for the 2007-2008 program year. Funding was awarded to support programs in Flagstaff, Guadalupe and Tucson. Two hundred fifty-seven AmeriCorps members will commit to 300, 900 or 1700 hours of service for these programs.
